On all the items I'd want to use this item, the clamp would slowly or immediately start to slide and then fall off of anything I clamped it on. The rubber on the inside of the clamp didn't have any "teeth" to hold the position and the weight, as light as an iPhone is, would be enough to make the whole device slide and fall. The device clamp is also not durable enough to withstand opening and clamping as it is an internal spring housed by plastic.

The mouse itself is fine for a laptop.It's small, precise, and responds well. It's a classic "plug and play" style with no directions and limited literature online.The complications with this product occur in the second time that you use it.Every time your computer shuts down, the signal for the USB receiver resets itself.This isn't a huge issue if you store the USB receiver in the mouse (there's a storage spot just under the iMicro logo.When you go to use it again, you simply press the small round button underneath the click wheel, and the USB stick pops out.The mouse powers ups, and voila: your two pieces should be synchronized.

The problem is that some people are not going to pull out the USB stick and put it in the mouse.I sure didn't.Thinking that I needed a software update, I went online and looked for anything that I could on this product.I found no help whatsoever.It was just by accident that I saw the storage spot in the mouse itself (what can I say...this is my first wireless laptop mouse).
If it is not used constantly, the mouse will go into a sleep mode...so once in a while I'll notice a slight lag in its response time.I must emphasize that this lag is "slight".

All in all: I like the mouse, but I hate the lack of information on it.

I got this speaker for my Psp because I'll be deploying soon. So I figured I needed speakers for all the convoys and stuff that we do and so on... I tried it out on the movie League of Extraordinary Gentleman in one of the fight scenes. The sound quality was amazing for the speakers, had a pretty good "surround sound" feel to it. The only draw backs for the sound is obviously the lack of bass, but of course thats only because of how small they are. The other set back is that the sound jack isnt letting the Psp center on the stand perfectly, does that hinder its performance? No but I have OCD so I like things perfect and centered. The jack would be better if it was just another foot longer allowing you to play games a long with the speakers. Other than that, it's better than most speakers and puts out a high quality sound. It comes with rechargeable batteries and incorporates your dc plug from your own Psp to recharge it also. Over all, good price along with great sound and portability. And got to me really quickly.

Sony XM4S Slim Line 4/3 Channel Amplifier Review

This amplifier does very well fitting into tight spaces. I've never had any issues with it getting too hot. I did remove the shroud, it just looked too flashy.

I never thought I'd buy a sony made car audio product, but this one doesnt disappoint.

There is one thing that should be noted, in case someone doesnt take the time to completely read the specifications for this amplifier.... there is no front low pass crossover, only one for the rear channels. This means that it would be difficult to bridge the front and rear channels together to push two subwoofers.

I actually bought this item from BestBuy, but I'm looking for a new speaker system right now (to upgrade from this) and I figured I'd write a review of this for any other people who need a cheap, 2.1 system.

Let me start out this way, for the price tag, these do much more than you think they would... The clarity of the playback is fairly impressive considering that it is only a 2.1 sound system, and most of that is due to the bass reflex encasement that the two main speakers are using. Also, because of that speaker build, these speakers can get VERY LOUD, surprisingly loud to be honest with you. I was actually able to fill a small auxilliary gym with these little guys, I just hooked up my ipod touch and cranked the music while I was shooting some hoops, and I was shocked to say the least at how well they can hold up at the higher volumes. Let me cut to the chase with this review though.

-Very loud for a 2.1 system, and an awesome buy if you're looking for a budget system or a 2.1 system.
-The subwoofer is small, and doesn't produce very much of anything, be prepared for good highs, average to below par mids, and nonexistent lows.
-Set up is incredibly easy, maybe 5 minutes times if your wires are extremely tangled, and that's not an exaggeration.
-Look fairly clean, and all in all, you get what you pay for, you really couldn't ask for more from a system at this price range.
-If you're just impulsively buying (like I sometimes do), DO NOT BUY THESE JUST BECAUSE THE PRICE IS LOW, you will more than likely come to regret the decision, as I did. I'm upgrading my system now to the Logitech 5500, and if you're looking for a more comprehensive and full system, do not consider these (that should go without saying as these are a 2.1 system...)

*keep in mind that this system will be better than most earbuds and headphones out there, and while it does have some bass capability, it will not compare to most other actual sound systems. **edit, with a decent sound card, this system actually is very crisp for playback quality (again, surprisingly for a 2.1 system). I haven't used many other 2.1 systems, but this one will hold it's own decently for accuracy of playback.

I had been looking for a better quality speaker to replace the high quality (but huge) speakers that were packaged with my new Sony R series computer.I considered the Bose media mates and others recommended on this site but most still took a significant chunk of real estate and did little to free up visual space either. So I noticed the SRS-Z1 on the Sony website and immediately thought, there is no way that those tiny little things with only three watts per channel are going to sound half as good as my current speakers but...

So here they sit on my desk, barely even noticable among the stacks of... never mind. Bottom line, if you want an all in one portable system or a simple two speaker, easy-on-the-eyes replacement for your computer speakers LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE! If however you are willing to add a subwoofer and create your own mini audiophile system BUY A SET NOW!

Without a good sub these speakers are huantingly transparent and accurate to a fualt but they have no bass what-so-ever.Imagine a set of $1.99 headphones and you'll be in the right frame of mind.Yes, the fidelity is much higher than a transister radio but the frequency loss on the low end is similiar.Once a sub with mini plug output is added however this system just opens up. Freed of the need to produce the low frequencies these speakers make mids and highs seem to hang in the air as smoothly and delicately as anything else on the market.After about ten minutes of E.Q. adjustment on my computer these speakers are comparable in sound to my (Much larger floor speakers) Bose 701s in the living room, with a little help from the sub.

If the price tag scares you, remember that prices vary wildly from shop to shop and todays latest and greatest is tomorrows bargain bin filler.

We bought this for our boat to go along with a new Sony stereo, 4 speakers, and subwoofer. The sound quality with just the Sony stereo and speakers was not impressive, I was ready to return everything. Lots of noise and any bass sounded awful. We decided to give the stereo and speakers a chance by buying the Sony subwoofer and amp. I am so glad we did. After hooking everything up, which was easy, the sound quality was amazing. Everything from Hip-hop to high-treble 80's music sounds great. I was worried because Sony is not known for sound quality, but I am sold from now on. I hope this review helps. I could not find enough reviews when I was buying this product.

Sony RDP-XF100IP Portable iPod Docking Station Review

I had agonized over the ideal dock for my iPod Touch with the stipulations that it had to be a reasonable size (I've lost some interest in big component systems.), and it would need at least an FM radio. While I've wanted to try HD radio, my understanding of availability in my area was that it could be if-y. So, good FM access would be fine. It seems like a small thing, but I'm legally blind and don't drive, so casual access to something like a car radio is fairly rare for me. My first, and most familiar, choice was a product that I had some familiarity with - the VERS system, with newer models incorporating a highly visible FM tuner. I had eventually tired of shipping delays for this device and gone to Best Buy to find the Sony.

Not only did the Sony dock have better sound than the VERS that I once owned, it was smaller, stylish and has the best receiving FM tuner that I've ever found in a portable or non-portable device. I've tended to live in older homes with older wiring and cloth wrapped interference bleeding electrical systems. The reception on the Sony dock is unlike any that I've ever owned, even with the convenient telescoping antenna in the stowed position. And the sound is rich and vibrant - certainly comparable to the similar Bose device that sports no FM tuner at twice the price.

The controls at the top of the dock are easily accessed and perform all of the functions found on the remote. As I noted above, I'm legally blind, but depend just enough on the tiny amount of eyesight that I do have to make use of digital displays. This one, unfortunately, and while not a deal-breaker, is terrible. It could be larger, though it's not unreasonably small. The problem is that it's abysmally dim - of almost no use to me. If this was an adjustable - and it wouldn't have hurt if it was larger - the dock would have received 5 stars from me.

In all, the RDP-XF100iP dock is not just a fine dock that does what I'd expect a dock to do, but is a nicely put together package that represents Sony quality first represented for me in my first Trinitron to my latest HD television. Highly recommended.

OK, so they'll never fill a concert hall with sound, and they don't have the richest, deepest bass. What would expect for speakers this small?
What they DO have is an amazing, lightweight, little package of sound that can travel with you anywhere. Match them up with your iPod and you've got the best tiny music system imaginable. My wife and I take them with us everywhere. They open and connect in seconds, and provide more than adequate fidelity for quiet background music in any one room.
As long as your expectations aren't ridiculous, you should find them a bargain, both in terms of cost and performance. I am very, very happy with mine!
As a bonus, my wife LOVES her new Coby earphones . . . and they have PLENTY of that deep bass.

Sony DAV-IS10 5.1-Channel Micro Satellite Home Theater System with TDM-IP1 iPod Cradle Review

I just bought this system a couple of weeks ago and am very happy with it.

It's especially good for those with limited space and/or who want a limited visual impact from their sound system. Which were top considerations in my choice.It's a nice system, with only a couple exceptions (*See comments below...)

First, the control module, with DVD player is very compact (a little over 8" X 8" X4") and has a clear display (although, it would have been nice if the numbers and words displayed were a little bigger... minor issue). It has many adjustments that can be made for different sound "fields", ie:DTS, Dolby II, etc. and can also be connected to your i-Pod or Computer, with connector modules available through the Sony On-line store.There are settings for component or HDMI setups.There is one HDMI out to TV and also seperate connections for Component cables if you are not using HDMI. The multiple connection options worked well for me, as I was able to connect to my Satellite receiver and another DVD/VHS player.

The DVD player produces an excellent picture, which I have set for 1080i "upscaling". A nice feature is, that if you stop the DVD at some point, it remembers this and will start back at this point, when you either hit play again or even if you have removed that DVD and put it back in.I think the manual said it remembers the last 10 different DVD stopping points.

Now, getting to How it Sounds...I rate it 4 out of 5.It's got deep bass, full middle range and crisp highs.*The one thing that is critical with this system, is that the sub-woofer unit, which contains both the mid-range and bass speakers; MUST be placed as close to the tv as possible (and preferrably in back of), as it is reproducing a large part of the middle (voice) range.The sub-woofer can NOT be placed in front of the screen (or way off to the side), as you will then notice the voices coming from the sub-woofer unit and not the screen.If placed correctly, on either side of the screen and slightly behind or directly behind the screen; the system does a good job of creating the perception that all the voices are coming from the screen and not the sub-woofer/mid-range unit. Also, the mid-range speaker (for voice) is in the top of the sub-woofer unit and cannot be blocked, so it cannot be placed inside a cabinet and forget about using the top of the unit as a "plant stand"!; )

One note of caution, DO NOT try and pick up the sub-woofer; by using the sub-woofers ports as "hand holds".Although, they would appear to work perfectly for this, the bass speaker sits just inside of these ports and you could easily damage it.

The 5 speakers are amazingly tiny and do a good job on the highs and "upper level" mid-range (the lower middle range, being handled by the middle/sub-woofer unit).The system comes with wall brackets for each of the 5 small speakers.I purchased the speaker stands (available seperately through the Sony On-Line store and are ridiculously high priced!), which are designed to work specifically for these speakers and are fortunately well made.Without the stands, the speakers can easily be placed on tables.They are very light though and can easily be knocked off, so a little "double sided" tape may be advised in this situation.

*The AM/FM receiver works well and although it sounds "ok" playing music CD's, this is not this units main "strength".You'll probably prefer another sound system, dedicated to playing music.The issue I noted, is that you have to make some adjustments to the bass, middle and treble and selected "sound fields", to bring out the best of your music CD and unfortunately, these settings are not "stored" in the system for just music; so you have to reset everything when switch to watching TV or a DVD.Almost more trouble than it's worth.I would not recommend this system for those who want to frequently switch between listening to music and watching TV/DVD's.

The remotes buttons are logically placed.They are varied in sizes with a couple raised "points" to help locate the correct ones in a darkened room.I would have appreciated, at this price range, an illumination feature; which it does not have.

If you have a newer Sony TV, it will also turn on the TV and sound system simultaneously.I have a Samsung hdtv, so I have to turn on each seperately, but interestingly enough, when I shut off the TV (using it's remote), this Sony system also shuts off at the same time.

It has a relatively clear and comprehensive manual, which is definitely required for all the adjustments and settings you'll need to make to get it calibrated and set up between the tv and different components.Although you can get through most settings, using the on-screen menus, without referring to the manual.

I am very pleased with this system. The construction of all components if of high quality materials and when set up correctly, it's impressive in the sound it creates from the tiny speakers working along with the bass/mid-range sub-woofer module.If you are looking for a top "audio-file" system, this probably isn't the system for you.If you have limited space and want a fairly unobtrusive looking system, with good quality sound, it's definitely worth considering.

I am an instructor.I needed a speaker system with a very small profile for international air travel.A friend of mine, who works for a major computer company, recommended these due to their size (though he did warn me the sound quality is average).

The speakers are indeed small & light - and they conveniently fit into my computer bag.

The sound is average, as I was warned.

The UBS connection cable is too short - which is an inconvenience.

But most disturbingly, the third time I used these they stopped working properly.Unfortunately it was 2-weeks past my warranty period.Their malfunction may have been a coincidence, but under the circumstances I cannot recommend these.Even when they did work, the sound wasn't up-to-par.

Do yourself a favor: look for an alternate model (there are many choices out there, in prices that range from $30 - $80).Just remember to go with a USB-powered model (USB power is a MUST!).

So I am not quite an audio nerd, but I am no noob by any stretch.At the price Amazon offers this thing packs a lot of heat, but it's even better when you pick it up on special for $300 flat, I could have spent more and been just as impressed and just as satisfied.1080i upconvertion from lower source material + 1080p through 3 HDMI inputs which means I can have 4 total sources plugged into it and only 1 HDMI connection to the TV.LPCM audio through HDMI- 2,5.1, and 7.1 channel uncompressed audio, so if you buy or have a Blu-ray system that decodes it's own DTS MA, DTS HD, etc...which MOST do, even most of the $140 bottom of the line off brands, you will get all the latest audio codec playback even though the system itself can't do it.

My complaints are that I can only do 4 inputs, HDMI 1-3 are labeled the same as the component inputs and cannot be assigned as a different input.The Ipod dock puts out solid sound but the on screen UI looks like it comes from the 80's, no big deal just would expect more based on how freaking cool everything else is.

I really feel like anyone who says there's not enough power to this is either too picky, hearing impaired, or doesn't really own the system and just likes putting in there 2 cents where ever they can.This thing isn't overpowering, although it probably could be if my wife let me turn it up, but can easily fill my home (1 story) with sound.If you want a professional system your looking in the wrong spot with this system and you should probably not write a negative review saying this thing cant do something it was never intended to do. If you want something easy to set up, easy on the eyes, and impressively strong, especially strong for the size of the speakers (I guess size doesn't matter), then this will be an awesome choice for you.GO FOR IT!

I was afraid that the iLuv Dual Dock would be too large for my end-table but it is the perfect size.I was also relieved to confirm that both docks will play and charge the 3G iPhone and newest iPods.The build quality is very high and the glossy plastic looks great but it is also a fingerprint magnet and hard to keep clean.

The reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because I disagree with the other two reviews before mine that state that the sound quality was great.I think it sounds rather poor.I would rate the sound a 3 out of 5 at best.If I was using this for listening to music I'd send it back.It sound nothing even close to the Bose and Altec-Lansing iPod speakers i've listened to.Luckily I'm only using it as a clock, alarm and for listening to podcasts.

Note: It also comes with a nice remote that attaches to the back with a built in magnet.

Since posting the review I've had the iLuv "crash", "lock up", "freeze" a few times.I need to be able to rely on my alarm and this is a real problem.The clock stays showing the time of the crash and all buttons stop functinoing.I have to power cycle the clock to get it going again.I'm going to call iLuv and see what they can do for me.

In my quest for the perfect portable speaker I came across this little beauty at Target. At about the size of a ballpark frank but less filling, the Sony SRS-T33 provides more than enough sound for an afternoon at the pool. Admittingly, I was fairly skeptical about getting decent sound out of any portable speaker; this was reaffirmed after plugging in my iPod. The sound was absolutely weak. I considered returning them but I wanted to hear what the power amplifier sounded like. So as soon as the NiMH AAA batteries I purchased were charged, I threw them into the speakers and the difference was like ketchup and mustard. The sound was full, deep and suprisingly powerful. I've "test driven" a few other speakers in this price range, mostly separates that are 3 times the size and weight (do you know how big a pain it is to carry those to the pool?) and the Sony definitely sounds significantly better, while the others usually sound like tin cans.
The only drawback is the audio cable is only 10 inches long, meaning you'll probably "reposition" (or knock over) your speakers as you're changing songs on your iPod. On the plus side, the cable integrates into the design and seamlessly hides when not in use (no wrapping the audio jack around the speaker 10 times). For $40 it's definitely the best choice for size, sound and design.

I have been a loyal Sony customer for years (since 1987).The model I most enjoyed had an inline volume control that allowed flexibility of volume control not only from the device I listened to, but the headset as well (that model has been discontinued by the way).The discomfort factor, though, was that the ear phones are large and somewhat painful to lie down on and they fall out of the ear very easily.What I wanted most was the soft in-ear buds, but I was hoping I would still able to get the inline volume control.When I first read the description for this product, it gives the impression that there is volume control with this headset; however, much to my disappointment, that is not true.

With that being said, I really enjoy this set because the case functions as a small portable speaker and convenient storage for the headset when not in use.Additionally, the soft in-ear buds feel wonderful and with the improvement of technology, I have the added luxury of custom fit (e.g., small, medium, large buds).Aside from that, the same rich sound quality expected from Sony is still there... I just wish I had my inline volume functionality -- that would have made this a perfect purchase.

This is by far the best sounding alarm clock I've ever had, but if you're looking for an alarm clock, this is really not for you.

It's more of a sound system with the bluetooth thing for your phone. I love hooking my ipod up to it too.

It's not very user friendly though especially when you wake up to what sounds like a freaking bomb getting ready to explode and can't find the right button to hit to save your life since none of the dang buttons light up. It's a bummer that you either have to wake up to the radio or the buzzer (or time bomb as I like to call it) since you can't leave your ipod or cellphone on all right waiting to wake you up.

I'd rather have a CD player alarm clock...

Love the sound, absolutely hate the alarm clock.

I just received these speakers today. They are very easy to set up, (takes no time to figure out at all). I was slightly disappointed with their construction, for paying 40 dollars I would think that they would feel more substantial. Also the subwoofer is pretty useless at the high output range, and pretty pitiful overall, but what can you expect for the price. These are very sharp looking speakers and I will display them proudly. If you are looking for a good subwoofer, spend some more money, but for dedicated laptop speakers they work fine.

Excellent product for something that I wasn't so sure at first. Reading the other reviewer's comments, I was afraid that the giant voltage converter (the "brick") was going to make a lot of noise. But it doesn't and quiet actually. The sound quality was acceptable (the surround sound is a very old feature of Sony, all the way from the 80's). There is an audio in, for your non-iPod gadgetry. It works fine for my iPod Touch and iPod nano (3rd gen). The remote can play playlists. The iTunes tag, a cool feature, is not used often enough by me, since I listen mostly to NPR, not music stations. I do notice the tag light will light up at times (if the station identifies the song at all).

At first I didn't know how to take off the universal dock adapter (supplied), causing a little problem and a nick on the plastic with a sharp surgical blade. There is a little recess at the back of the plastic adapter to take off the whole adapter. The universal adapter does not work for the two iPods I have. And the connector works fine without it.

The reception is generally good for HD Radio. However, I had to use my own radio amplifier to get the best reception. There is a little drop if the signals are not "locked" in (almost like stuttering of human speech, repetitive words here and there if the signals are not strong).

I also like the auto scan feature, reminiscent of most car audio. Other than that, the unit delivers what it promises for a $150 radio. Now there is a 50 bucks off rebate if you buy it right now before the end of Sept 2008. This would bring the price to almost just a $100 for an exceptionally cheap HD radio/ iPod dock charger. Yes, it should work with iPhone 3G, as per other reviewers. And the speakers are shielded, since I can put my Motorola Razor next to it without any problem. No buzzing sound!

Highly recommended for its price (to get the rebate of course). The remote is not lighted, but nobody is going to fault it for its generic design. Have not tested the alarm system, but do NOT think that it is going to be a real alarm clock for you in the morning. There is no Snooze button. Having used a few times of its alarm function, I can tell you that it is better to use your cell phone (like my Razor, which has a snooze button). This is not a real alarm clock. It will wake you up, but not for a lazy guy who hopes to hit the snooze a few times.

Buy this only if 1. you need an ipod charger, compatible with 3G iPhone (my girlfriend's does work!); there are cheaper HD radios out there 2. cannot live without HD radio's promise of multi-cast, like digital TV. Local NPR and classical stations have mutli-cast features, which are very nice. 3. Beautiful black design, which complements any decor. I always like Sony's look and built. Look expensive! 4. Awesome adaptation as a wifi radio, if you happen to own an iPod touch with wifi connection. I listen to Pandora and AOL radio on the net, using this unit.

Don't buy this if you 1. expect HD radio exceeds your audio expectations and needs. The quality of HD radio is not that much better. My stereo system pumps out excellent analog radio sounds, similar to this unit 2. expect this to replace a real clock radio. No snooze button. 3. no audio outs or a headphone jack. Why???!!! Every radio needs an audio out. But this doesn't.

The sound quality was akin to a decent radio alarm clock like the Sony Dream Machine. But that's not what I expect out of a boom box, especially a Sony. Weak sound, ordered from Amazon directly as new, and was sent an open box item with a crushed in speaker. Very dissapointing especially when I usually receive great service and items that are actually NEW when stated. Not including the busted speaker, the sub is very weak, no bass, no adjustments available to remedy that either. Sounds like any $20 off-brand speaker set with a "sub" included. Flat sounding and chinsy. Dont waste your time...

I needed a set of very portable speakers that would fit into my laptop bag that would also improve the sound over the built-in speakers.I am very happy with these speakers.

The Pro's:1) These speakers provide much more solid and direct sound than my built-in laptop speakers.2) They perform surprising well in passive mode, but I believe they sound slightly better when powered by batteries.3) Very portable, no extra adapter to lug around, speakers cannot fall over if sitting on an unstable surface.Will sit on most laptop computers out of the way above the keyboard if desk space is really limited or unavailable.However, music sounds better if the speaker is sitting on the desk next to the computer.4) Seem durable and well built to last.Nothing sticking out to break off.Power switch not likely to get bumped and turned on while riding in your pack.

The Con's: 1) No built in volume control.You must use your computers mixer/volume control.2) Audio is a little compressed sounding.This is ok for movies because you can hear the dialog better.But for music, if you have a graphic equalizer on your music player you can make them sound a LOT better than just feeding them flat audio. 3) No auto power off -- If you don't switch off the power the batteries will run down when not in use.

Just to summarize.Don't think that your're going to listen to music through these while your raking leaves in the back yard.These are small speakers!If your unhappy with the sound quality and level from your laptop speakers and you want a boost without the typical hassels of exernal speakers then you will be happy with these.

I bought the BDVE300 to go with a Sony 52Z5100 HDTV that I also bought from Amazon. I bought it mainly because I wanted to match the two items for both esthetic and practical reasons. The black speakers match the TV perfectly. I can also control both with one controller and easily run the TV sound through the HTS.
I am not an audiophile. So I didn't try to compare technical specs. This review is strictly subjective (in part to counter the one above) and is based on what I have heard while using the system with the TV.

The room in which the TV is located in is a 20 X 20 den/family room with a connecting dining area and kitchen. The entire area is open. It has wooden floors with a single oval area rug in front of the fireplace and TV.

I found the sound to be exceptionally clear and clean, without distortion or unevenness. I can tell a definite difference between the TV speakers and the BDV300 speakers. The BDV300 sound seems more spacious.It fills the room without blowing you away. The sound has more fullness to it than the TV speakers.
I have not tried it at full volume. I have never felt the need to do so. I have watched two musical DVDs, a Mary Chapin Carpenter concert and the 10th anniversary recording of Les Miserables. In both cases the music sounded beautiful and clear. You could hear all of nuances of the voices and the words of the songs were distinct and clear.

If you want strong bass that shakes the room, I am not sure this is the system for you. The bass is there but it is blended in with the other sounds.I am sure I can adjust it for greater effect. However, I am currently running the system at default values.

As for the lack of an S-air wireless cartridge, as mentioned by the reviewer above. It is true you have to buy it separately. However, everything I read about the system stated this plainly up front.If you need this feature it is available as an option. In researching this system I found this individual posted the same opinion on every web site he could find. I don't think his opinion was a fair assessment of the system's capabilities.
I found the set up to be rather easy. The instructions show various options on installing it alone with the TV or with a cable/SAT box or with an external DVD, etc. With the external mic it took about one minute to calibrate and maybe 15 mins. to connect the wires.

Be aware that Sony uses a proprietary plug on the DVD/Radio/Amp end of the system.The speaker end is a simple pinch type terminal. There is a FM & AM receiver as part of the system. I have not tried them yet. The DVD/CD/Blue ray player worked fine.

The bottom line is: The BDVE300 does everything Sony says it does. If you are looking for something to enhance your TV experience and play CDs with good clear sound, this system will do it well. For the price, I think it is an excellent value. I found no "gotchas" or "I can't believe they did this". So I gave it a rating of 5.I am very pleased with my purchase.

Sony EZWT100 S-AIR Signal Transmitter - Black Review

Last year we purchased the Sony DAV-HDX576WF Home theater system with the TA-SA100WR wireless rear speaker amp and AIR-SA10 wireless speaker system.Incredible unit!!However they all came with the EZW-RT10 transmitter.I recently purchased 2 more AIR-SA10 units without the transmitters.Sony's website claims the new T100 cards are compatible with the SA10 units, however they are not!!Apparently when Sony upgraded the AIR-SA10s to accommodate the new transmitter, they didn't bother to change the model number.Bottom line: This transmitter will not fit into a unit originally designed for the EZW-RT10 transmitter.Check your S-Air system carefully before purchasing.

Late last year my wife and I decided to downsize our living space from a 5 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom, upstairs apartment. When I moved in Nov of 09, I gave my sona 5.1 surround sound speaker set which was simply way to big for my new place. My den now is only 11x11'. A large speaker would be impossible in such a small space. After looking and listening to many sub sat speaker options in a variety of configurations, from sound bars to cubes to orb type speakers, I came upon this Sony system at the Sony Style Store in NYC while on a business trip. While I gave up my speakers, I kept my Sony STR-5400ES surround soundreciever and my Sony BDP-S1000ES Blu-Ray Player. For my CD collection, I have a NAD C565BEE Player. All this is coupled to a 52" Sony XBR9 LCD TV. So I was ready to add a room friendly surround speaker package to my system. This Sony package fit the bill perfectly. The speakers are tall and very narrow, with an extremely small footprint. The powered sub is narrow and sits next to the TV stand between the front speakers perfectly. When I installed the speakers and EQ'ed the system, the sound produced was detailed and sweet. The sub's controls allowed me to fine tune the bass to my small space. No boom, but plenty of bottom when needed. After several months of listening to all kinds of music, watching Blu-Rays and playing video games, I can say that this system, for the money is very tough to beat. On Classical music, the orchestra's sound is rich and full, with a great amount of detail in the music. Piano and violin sound very good. Bass instruments deliver the goods without boom or smear. The sound is never thin or shrill like many other systems in this price range. Jazz, rock and blues also sound superb. The surround sound draws you in. When I played the Roy Orbison Black and White Night Concert Bluray, I was in the club with the audience. The music was completely enveloping, the vocals were perfect and the band was red hot and in my room. The center channel provides clear and life like dialogue.In my small space, I am able to dial in the perfect blend of bass without boom. While on my hunt for a small room system, I looked at systems that cost up to $3000.00, and I can honestly say that this Sony system delivered the sonic goods without the high price tag. At the suggested retail list price, this system would be a good buy, but at the Amazon price, with no tax and free shipping, this thing is a smoking bargain. I would recommend this speaker system to anyone who wants a clean, warm and detailed sound on music and movies, and also enjoys the beautiful design of this system. One final note, the speakers and sub are made with very high quality materials, and sound as good as they look.

Sony SRS-T88 Compact Portable Speakers Review

i usually take my boombox/radio to work and listen to my cd's but i have to lug it around in a backpack and then there's carrying all my cd's, it's getting old so a few days ago,
i got on amazon and started browsing through mobile speakers.
i bought these and a smaller sony version that says(blue) attached to the end of the name, those were about $40 dollars, not to bad I thought, but i work in a cooler with a many large fans blowing, so the sound quality/volumewere not enough for me.I was lucky and came across these at a local furniture/electronics store. there were about $80 there so it is wiser to get these at amazon.com.

I love these, i plug it into my sony hd mini-discman nh600d, and now instead of carring around a backpack and a 128 cd case, i can take about 70% of my cd collection which is alot more then what is in that single 128 case to work in the palm of my hand or in a few extra HD 1gig discs.

there are others complaing about sound quality, you do lose a little but come on people that is to be expected, this thing is about as long as DVD case and half as wide and about 1 1/2 inches deep, so yes the sound quality is never gonna be the same as a $80 or $200 radio/boombox.the sound quality in my opinion is amazing for the size of this thing.you are always going to lose something to gain a little something, and I for one do not mind this very little loss in quality, now almost all of my music can go with my anywhere.

Overall I happy with my speakers. My situation when I bought them and installed them was a little strange, so I ended up paying about 30 too much a retail store (bummer). I wish I had done more homework and possibly purchased them elsewhere, therefore saving me money. However, I am happy with the product, the range and clarity are impressive. Even at full volume they will not distort (but my stock speakers will). I can definitely see myself purchasing more Sony audio gear for my car.

I don't think these would suit a full fledged audiophile, but for an average user looking to upgrade over stock and not break the bank, these will do just fine.

The instructions are really only useful for identifying the positive and negative terminals. If you don't understand what I just said either do some serious homework, or pay to have them installed.

Sony ZSS4IP CD Boombox with iPod Dock and iPhone (Black) Review

I have the white version of this - out on the pool deck it doesn't get as hot as a dark colored unit would.I read all the reviews for this boombox, and I was very hesitant - together they averaged out rather negative when I was shopping for it.I owned the comparable iLive boombox - can't remember the model number - it was very sleek and looked sort of like a cylinder.Anyway - it was aweful.Kept running the batteries down when turned off - I had to take the batteries out when not in use.It used six D batteries and it was heavy.It had no remote and the iPod control was awkward.The sound was distorted at around the seven or eight level.It stopped working altogether after one year.I paid around $90 for it, but now it goes for around $50.I was so afraid I would wind up with the same disappointment.But anyone who wants a portable (can use batteries) CD, iPod, AM/FM radio together in one box knows that you are at the mercy of the electronics makers.There simply aren't many of them.There should be, in this day and age - but almost none of them have everything you are looking for.So, as my choices were slim, I crossed my fingers and took a chance on the Sony.

Well - this Sony unit is an absolute breath of fresh air.The remote actually does operate the iPod.Yes, the iPod is a little hard to see in there.But the door that holds the iPod - like a cassette door - does a great job of protecting the iPod and keeping it in place.It's a trade off.The sound isn't that of a Bose.It's not going to wake the neighbors - it's not REALLY loud.But out by the pool I can turn it up to hear it anywhere on the deck or in the pool, and it isn't distorted.It's also much lighter than the iLive, even comparing them both without their batteries.It uses C batteries, so with the batteries the advantage increases.I think this is the very best you can do for the money.If you wanted to invest more in a higher quality system, you would still find it difficult to obtain a unit with all the features offered here.Especially, if you want to be able to listen to a baseball game with it with a push of a button.I kind of still think that the old CD boomboxes had better quality sound at higher volume and were cheaper, so I don't know why Sony can't do that today.For this reason, it isn't perfect, so I gave it four stars.Relative to other available units that offer ALL the same features, this unit would deserve five stars.If you want a versatile quality boombox, but you don't need it to blow your hair back, this is your choice!

Sony SRSBT100 Bluetooth Stereo Speakers Review

About a week in and this speaker is exactly what I was looking for.And here is what I was looking for:

Both my wife and I have LG enV2 phones, which have an MP3 player, small onboard speakers, a 2.5mm jack (smaller, non-standard size), and support bluetooth stereo.We love to flip it open and have on-the-fly, decent sounding music through the onboard speakers (tinny sound, but loud).We also share a pair of Motorola Rokr S9 bluetooth headphones that we wear on the go, to work out, run, etc. and we love that as well.

So the last thing we needed to run our entire world of music from our phones was a bluetooth speaker to station in our living room for better open-air sound than the phone's onboard speakers.

Well, this is it!Pairing the speaker to the phones was perfectly straightforward, as is connecting for each use.You can either turn the speaker on each use and it just finds the phone and is ready to go, or you can leave the speaker on all the time and connect/drop with the phones.We do the latter for two reasons: 1) When you turn on the speaker and both our phones are around, it's random which phone it connects to (an issue with our diverging musical tastes!) and 2) We have it tucked away on a hard-to-get-to shelf.

Aesthetically speaking, it's very sleak-looking, not too big (or small I guess -- looks high-end, very Bose-like).The sound is strong considering it's bluetooth.Bass hangs in there, though it didn't blow me away.It certainly destroys the tinny sound of the enV2's onboard speakers.The sound fills the room rather than the "blaring from the counter" effect, just the difference we were hoping for.

I found it just a little pricey, but because it was the missing link for us to do all our music off of our phones I never thought twice.So all that said, for our situation, it's a clear 5 stars.

As for other reviews I'm reading, I don't doubt them.We have no other bluetooth devices around to get crossed with this, but I've heard plenty of stories about ANY two bluetooth devices in close proximity not playing nice.

Also, I wouldn't bother with this product if I was going to use it for any stationary music source, like a reciever or computer, unless I was really desperate to get it across the room without a cord.The bit I read about walls impeding the connection is true -- same for us but not an issue, we just leave the phone sitting in the same room.But in the future we might double it's use: it does come with a corded input and might make a nice center channel if we took this room in that direction.Or it might be a decent upgrade in sound over our TV's onboard speakers and I may try that.The corded input was smart, you never know what you might do with it.As another reviewer with bluetooth contention issues noted, it could salvage it if you give up on the bluetooth.

If I had to pick on it, I would say it might be nice to be able to run it off batteries.While for now we keep it stationary, the cordless nature of it would make it perfect to pick up off the shelf and take anywhere, but, you'll always need an outlet.It would also be nice if the left/right speakers were separate and I could split them into separate corners of the room.But of course then you'd need the phone to talk to both speakers, or to one speaker and then that speaker to stream to the other, which would then present timing issues.Bluetooth just isn't there yet.

So, I'd recommend highly if your situation is similar.But think it through if you have more constraints, you may want to let bluetooth mature some more.

Sony ICFCD3iP CD Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone (Silver) Review

I bought and returned the Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 a few weeks ago. You can find my review of it and my reasons for sending it back. In brief, audible distortion killed it for me. I subsequently ordered the ICFCD3iP with the expectation that sound output would be weaker.

I received the CD3iP today and I'm happy to say that it accomplishes its mission very well. It's not meant to be a Bose SoundDock, but it produces very well behaved sound. Let me see if I can explain it further...

First, there is absolutely no audible distortion. The sound is clean and well balanced; it has weight and is not as tinny as some would suggest. For a clock radio, the speaker does a remarkably good job. The volume goes up to level 20, which is loud enough for a single room but not loud enough to damage your ears. Realize that it's a small speaker and keep your expectations reasonable. Even at maximum volume there is no distortion and the sound is tightly controlled.

The FM tuner does a superb job of producing a clean and clear output with no listener fatigue. Small amounts of hiss or noise can quickly lead to fatigue, so it's particularly gratifying to have an FM radio to which I can listen at length. NPR (local 88.5) comes through very nicely.

The alarm and clock are thoughtfully designed. Large numbers are easy to read, the display has 3 brightness levels, and the dual alarms can be set for weekday, weekend, and wake-to-radio, wake-to-iPod, wake-to-CD, or wake-to-buzzer.

Alarm and radio presets are backed up by an onboard battery, so no flashing 12:00 after a power outage.

iPod/iPhone integration is the same as on the ICF-C1IPMK2. The remote lets you navigate your iPod.

Sony SRS-D4100 4.1 Multimedia and Gaming Speaker System Review

I searched all over the net for a review of these speakers, couldn't find any that were informative enough (there were two short reviews for the D2100) so i chose to buy the speakers and see for myself. Apparently the only difference between the D2100, D4100 and D5100 is the number of satellite speakers...I got the D4100 today and these speakers ROCK!!

The box was f%$#ing heavy and took forever to drag to my dorm, but once in, it took 5mins to set it up/clear clutter on my desk and play my songs from itunes. I have a laptop with only one input, so i bought a koss splitter and the sound from the rear speakers seems to be good...also, if you are using itunes you will need to play with the settings on the equalizer and on the remote for the speakers to find what works for you...

All in all, these speakers are a steal for $76 and im glad i took the plunge...I find that i have not had any problems with my system, unlike the people who reviewed the D2100...

I spent the extra money on the Sony speakers because I thought their materials/build quality would hold up better in the harsh marine environment, but after about a month on our 38 foot catamaran these speakers started to rust!Gradually a brown streak stained the speaker from the center cone to the bottom, leaching onto the fiberglass underneath it.While they still worked, I was surprised that a Sony product would start to degrade as fast as it did.Maybe it's impossible to build a speaker that won't do this, but in that case they should come in the color brown...Oh, the sound was great, so they still get two stars.

Like the previous reviewer, I also went to a brick and mortar store to buy the previous model, which was on the display, but the inventory was for this unit, billed as a slightly newer replacement unit by Sony.This unit fixes two complaints from the previoous model: 1) the Iphone no longer sits above the snooze button; 2) the clock is far less cluttered and the display is larger and easier to see.

What really amazed me when I took it home and set it up was the sound quality.I currently have the Ihome IP9 and IP99.One of my IP9 units failed after about 10 months, so I bought this Sony unit to replace it.This unit is so much better in sound quality than the Ihome!I can't believe how great the sound is from such a small and inexpensive device.In addition, my Iphone fits snugly into this unit without any adapters, and I do not have to remove my protective case to properly dock it.I think Sony fixed the majority of complaints quite successfully with this new unit, and I am very pleased to have purchased it.I strongly recommend it over the Ihome units.

This is actually exactly what I was looking for in an iPhone dock: Decent size, decent sound (when the artificially heavy Bass Boost is switched off), works with the iPhone 3G with no GSM noise.

The sound is good, but not great. It's not going to replace my hi-fi, but for listening to music while falling asleep or listening to a ballgame while cooking, it's perfect. I use it with the FlipClock app as a clock radio.

So, yeah - if you're looking for a decent iPhone 3G dock solution, this seems like the only rational choice. Believe me, I looked.

11/04 Review Update. I have been having a lot of problems with the Dock for this product, which is really a shame. Its great in all other ways but I keep it at my desk at work and so I am always taking my iPhone on and off the dock. The dock is sort of flimsy plastic and it slides around very freely when extended. So when you are trying to put your iphone on the dock, the dock is sliding back & forth and so I have to hold the dock with one hand to keep it still while I try to dock the iphone. If you don't get it docked just right, the iphone complains this unit is not compatible with the iphone, etc.. I think this is due to the pins not lining up right. Its really annoying. I dropped a star off my review.

Also, forget trying to keep your iphone in its case, the dock unit is not adjustable (online other sony clock radios that offer iphone docking). As the main thrust of this unit is to be a dock for your iphone or ipod, its a shame Sony didn't spend a little more time on making the dock more sturdy and capable of keeping your case on.

Just got this in - some initial comments that I will update later. So far I am really blown away by what Sony has crammed into this thing. It is by far the ultimate ipod desk or bedside accessory. Sony is really pushing the limits of an ipod/iphone accessory here. Looking at my review, you see a lot of cons - I think its because this unit pushes the limits so far that people will have thoughts on how it could be improved. Nothing is 'wrong' with this unit really, its just some of my personal preferences I think.

Despite some of the design flaws, overall its a fantastic unit. However, it might get promoted to my desk as opposed to bedside. I don't know that i really need a video screen bedside & a digital picture frame. At my desk tho, that would be much handier.

Pro's:

LCD Screen is extremely bright & crisp - you can play video from the ipod or iphone or from internal memory or a memory card or USB stick! I would have no probs watching tv episodes or even a movie off this screen. You can even watch youtube videos on the LCD playing from the iphone.You can choose full screen or fit to screen for video and stills. Video screen integration with the iphone is simply put, exceptional.

The unit has a memory card slot and a usb slot plus 1gb of internal storage. You can play stills, music & video from the internal storage or the memory card or the iphone. Extreme flexibility.

You have decent playback controls on the unit to control playback from the iPhone. Buttons are hard to see when "in bed" as they are flush on the unit's base, you'll have to just learn where they are I guess.

4 brightness settings for the LCD screen including "nightmode". My wife would kill me if this thing lit up the bedroom. Nightmode essentially just puts the time on the screen very very faintly, so faint even in total darkness its faint - I like it!

Built in battery for when you lose power - nice touch. Supposed to have auto time set but it didn't work for me. I had to set the clock manually.

Slide out tray for your iphone, etc. seems to be able to hold my iphone in its case - great news. Tray is not the best design tho.

Track & playback information displays on the display when you play music from the ipod - very cool. No album artwork on the unit however.

In settings you can see the "software" version which says 1.0. Maybe this implies we'll get updates for it that you can load via memory card? That would be nice. There are a few features that could act differently. Fixing nightmode and adding album artwork would be great.Cons:

No remote. Seriously Sony? Not even for basic functions like volume and play / pause? Serious lack of thought for a pricey item. My last Sony ipod clock radio had a great remote & was almost half this price. Sad face. This is a really glaring omission.

Speaker quality is pretty "tinny" - I was under impressed with the sound coming from this unit. My last Sony iphone clock radio had great speakers and cost less than $100. So the trade off is I get a video player but my music quality drops a lot. Again, tho, clock radio - not meant to be a full sound system.

The iPhone / iPod dock could have been better made. It feels flimsy and I have to use both hands to dock the iphone. One to hold the entire unit steady and one to place the iphone in the cradle. The dock locks when you push it into the body of the unit but when you extend it, it does not lock into place and slides back & forth. I sense a potential point of failure here.

It seems you can't delete the internal "demo" photos or video. Sounds silly but I don't want to see "demo" pics on my slide show. I figured out that if you play the slideshow from a memory card it skips the internal pics. There are about 6 pics of "kids" and landscape that always repeat if you play the slideshow from the internal memory. Very annoying that if you play the slideshow from the internal memory you are stuck with "demo kid" and stock photo shots in your mix.

You have to go into the settings to switch to video playback for the iPhone, it would be nice if you could switch to video easier than that. Also, if you stop playing video or use another function on the clock, you have to go back to video settings and switch to ipod video again. I'd like a button on the unit to do that.

I can't figure out how to turn the clock off when watching a video from the ipod, it displays the time in the lower right corner. Would be nice to be able to clear the screen while watching a video.

It seems you can't enter 'nightmode" when listening to music or using the "sleep timer" function. The screen stays on the lowest regular setting which is quite bright in total darkness. I'll have to play with it more - maybe they can patch it. This is a pretty big issue, what's the point of a sleep timer if the thing is lighting up the entire room.

The unit has no audio in (fail) and no headphone jack. It could really use both of these but you can plug in your iphone headphone while watching video on the screen.

These computer speakers are a throwback to the 80s. where *bloops* and *bleeps* would have possibly sounded great on these speakers, but for today's standards in portable sound, these are sorely lacking.

I can understand when companies create mediocre speakers and mark up the price with little regard to actual sound quality, but I was embarrassed when I picked these up at fry's for a little over fifty dollars to demo on my laptop.First off, these are seemingly well made with a sturdy base, and solid feel to them, but the problem is when you actually turn them on to listen to any variety of things from youtube videos to your favorite playlist.I actually had to disconnect them from my computer and test which was louder, my macbook speakers or the powered sony speakers; if anyone has to do that with powered speakers there is a major problem.I have to admit, I have spent fifty dollars on some pretty useless things, but I can also guarantee these are not worth anything more than something out of a Mcdonald's happy meal either.

Do yourself a favor, if you are on a budget, check out the JBL Duet speakers in white (for the same price on amazon).The JBl speakers have very accurate sound for portable speakers and will not disappoint even the most discerning individual.Now instead of wasting my money, I have nabbed an awesome set of computer speakers for a very reasonable price; if only Sony could follow suit and not try and peddle these speakers for an inflated price; if you don't trust me, try them for yourself and then you will find yourself saying "wow, I should have listened to...".

Go on now, if you are still reading this review, you are wasting time still looking at these speakers.Pick up the JBl Duet's or toss your money out the window, because if you buy these you are practically doing the latter.

Only have had these mighty little speakers a day; but am mightily impressed.

Of course, I can't comment on long-term durability; but I can tell you that the sound is much better than I expected on a little pair of speakers like this -- though the reviews (on the black version and other sites) were just as happy.I mean, I'm just plain awed when I look at these little Mighty Mites.

Perfect?No, $2,000 speakers ain't gonna be perfect.Yep, there's some distortion if cranked up full blast; but show me comparable speakers that won't distort some.Slight rattle, if you listen hard and close for it.But, hey, these are tiny miracles, considering the quality sound they put out and sure as heck worth this price.Easy to set up, too.

One nitpick?The cord to the playing unit is kinda short and I've ordered an extension (easy & cheap fix).The speakers can't be placed far apart, about 2-1/2 feet.

Though there is no bass-tweaker, I find nothing too deeply missing.These don't have a sub-woofer; but that's part of the portability, right?I do enjoy a good bass, too; but I'm not the type to drive around in an Impala blasting neighbors with cannons from my trunk.

They aren't meant for 20-seat home-theaters or anything more elaborate, that's for sure.These are petite, portable speakers that put out sound you won't believe from anything so small and unpricy (is that a word?).

Understand what they are and what you'll use them for.I have them plugged into a little DVD player that I mostly use for CDs.Mireille Mathieu sounds delicious.She sounds crisp and pure to moi.That tells you my style of music-listening as well as the fact that I appreciate mighty good sounds."Close Encounters of a Third Kind" sounds just fine, considering I'm not in a downtown movie palace.

In short, these are not for audiophiles who measure and analyze each note coming from their gold-plated monster-speakers.They are for casual but also sensitive listeners who need a little set of speakers with good sound.At the size, price and within their given parameters, I doubt you'll do better and most likely not nearly as good.

Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar with Subwoofer - Black Review

I tried several 2.1 speaker systems to enhance the sound from our LCD HDTV. The 2.1 speaker systems used the RCA audio output from the TV but I was never satisfied with the quality of the sound, even from the Bose Companion system. I think part of the problem is with the low-level output of the TV's RCA audio connection and for this reason I decided to look for a speaker system that could take advantage of my HDTV's digital optical audio output connection. I also didn't want to have a five-speaker system all around the room and so I focused my search on soundbar-type systems. The Sony HT-CT100, just recently introduced, fit the bill perfectly and comes at a price much lower than the Yamaha and Philips soundbar systems with optical inputs.

The Sony HT-CT100 produces great sound. The speaker bar is very low profile and takes up very little space whether you sit it in front of the TV or hang it on the wall. The subwoofer is large (about the size of a desktop PC) and sits on the floor. The subwoofer has a nice display along the top edge of the box to tell you the various system settings. Best of all, the 200 watt amplifier (built-in to the subwoofer) has multiple HDMI and optical audio inputs and acts as the control center for a complete home theater/sound system. This was an unexpected bonus -no need for a separate home theater receiver. Just plug your satellite system, DVD player(s), game consoles, etc. right into the HT-CT100 and control everything from the remote. It's an elegant solution and I haven't seen anything else quite like it. Since the system takes in digital video/audio directly, you get to enjoy full Dolby Digital surround sound. The system can belt out remarkable volume levels and rich, deep bass. The speaker bar has left, right, and center channel speakers along with the remote control IR sensor. The Sony remote supplied with the system will control all your Sony components; however, if your HDTV, DVD player(s), etc. are not Sony brand (like mine), then be prepared to buy a universal learning remote in order to program the HT-CT100 commands. While I can decipher having several remote controls, I prefer to use a single remote control so that my family has an easier time turning on the TV or watching DVDs. The price of the Sony soundbar system is very reasonable considering its power output and multiple digital video/audio inputs to control your home theater. The quality is impressive (though I did have to return my first system due to a soundbar speaker buzz -my second system is flawless) and it looks and sounds like high-end gear. When I shop for items like this, I look at features, quality, and price without regard to the brand. In this case, Sony simply has a product that works great and provides an elegant solution for those wanting home theater sound in a low-profile package. It's a winner.

Given that, these light and small speakers do just the trick for the office if you want to listen to music sans headphones but not loud enough to get on your coworkers' nerves. I bought my first one of these about ten years ago (to give you an idea of how long that is, the instructions show you how to connect it to your Walkman). It's still going strong. I bought a second one because Amazon (actually Wall Street photo) offered me a great deal, and it's worth having a spare.

Out of the box the speakers sound terrible. You need to kick up the bass on your player, and tweak the positioning a bit (the tweeters fold down, so you can face them in the same direction as the bass, or backwards). The system actually sounds best on a bookshelf (to give it some additional resonance), and, depending on the music, it may also be best to fold down the tweeters and let them bounce off the back. It's also optimized for voice range, so folk and swing sound better than heavy metal or disco.

Cosmetically, the speaker isn't pretty (not so much retro as orthopedic). So?

When I was looking for a pair of powered portable speakers, I looked at this pair from Sony, as well as a couple selections at Radio Shack, all for the same price of $19.99.Compared to the Radio Shack speakers, the Sony has these pros and cons:
Pros:
- lightweight
- better build quality (all are made in China)
- accommodates easier-to-find AA batteries vs. size C for RS
- slightly better sound with more clarity
Cons:
- no bass or treble controls as on the RS speakers
- not as loud as the RS speakers, but the latter gets distorted so bad so the maximum volume is meaningless
In the end I chose the Sony speakers for better sound and build quality as well as a longer warranty.I use them with my RCA Lyra MP3 Jukebox and also my Panasonic SL-SV550 CD/MP3/Radio player.Pretty happy so far.

When I was searching for speakers, there were a few important points on my checklist. First, I wanted speakers thatwould sound great at low to medium volume, because that's how I listen to it 99% of the time. Second, it must besmall, because I don't have much desk space. There's a large UPS behind my monitor, so I can't fit asubwoofer.Third, I wanted a remote, and this one has a very basic wireless IR. Maybe it's a bit too basic. I would have likedto have a fader so I can balance the volume between the two sources. I have a small TV and my PC hooked up to thesespeakers, and it would be nice to fade the TV when viewing a video online.

I'm up late working, or playing games, and I don't want to disturb anyone, so the speakers must sound clear at lowvolume. With the sony, the sound is clear, and the bass is audible without disturbing others. The bass port is veryeffective at boosting the bottom end. Looking into the reflex port, the small tube is lined with felt, a nicefunctional detail. The bass output is decent for such small speakers. They can reproduce a sine wave down to 45 Hz.At 40 Hz, the sound is barely audible. My Bose Mediamates could only reproduce a sine wave down to 60 Hz. Whenplaying the Deadline Dissident CD, the bass was clearly audible, but it did have trouble reproducing the deepernotes of Bill Laswell. When playing music at high levels, the bass just could not keep up, and the sound distorts.So, I would not recommend these if you expect to fill a room with music.

Another thing I like about these speakers is that the housing is made of thick aluminum. They do not suffer fromthat hollow plastic sound, where the enclosure resonates sounds. The surface has a rich satin finish, with polishededges that give it an elegant look. The metal case probably adds a lot to the cost of the unit, but it really is anice departure from all the plastic speakers out there. These feel as if they were engineered to last. If you arenot bothered by the price, and you want a clean, clear, and natural sound at low volume, then these speakers arefor you. I was lucky enough to find these on sale at a local store for less than $150. At the price I paid, I gaveit five stars.

I wish these had a headphone jack, and a fader control. Having separate bass and treble controls might help, butit's not critical, since the sound is fairly balanced. When compared to the Bose Mediamate speakers (also 2.0), theSony sounds natural, and the music seems as if it's coming from much larger speakers. In contrast, the Bose soundsbrighter, because the the upper midrange is coming through loud and clear, but the bottom spectrum is weak. TheSony sounds more like a hifi than the Bose, which sounds very thin. The thumping of the bass drum will go throughwalls a lot easier with the Sony, so you'll need to be a little more careful with the volume control.

Out of curiosity, I decided to pull out the old Cambridge Soundworks Microworks (3 piece system). I've forgottenhow great these sound. It fills a room with rich, and dynamic music. The sub will produce a sine wave down to 25Hz, and is loud enough to make any music sound so much richer than the diminutive Sony. Unfortunately, when youturn down the volume, it sounds awful, most of the spectrum drops off except for the lower midrange. This is wherethe Sony really shines, all frequencies come through loud and clear. I'm glad I brought them out, because I can usethe CS remote as a volume control for the TV.

Overall, these speakers sound very natural, and clear. It lacks the bottom end of larger 2.1 systems, but at lowvolume, it sounds as if you are listening to larger speakers from across the room. Doing a frequency sweep revealsa smooth response across the entire spectrum. It's true that a 2.1 system will sound better than this unit, but ifyou don't have the space, and you're looking for speakers that sound good at low volume, then you should considerthese.

The A series Sony desktop speakers have always been cheaper than their Z series counterpart, and it is usually not hard to see why. This latest addition to Sony's extensive range of portable speakers is no different.

The design of the A212 is very similar to that of the A201, but thespeaker cabinets contain about twice the volume of air than the A201, which probably contributes to the more balanced sound. The A201 by comparison sounds like two cheap plastic boxes. This however is not to say that the A212 actually sounds great. The built-in equalizer provides a little kick to the bass along with a little hiss of treble, but the 66cm drivers are producing way too much midrange sound, which makes the speakers sound cheap and boomy considering how elegant they look.

Another annoying attribute of the A212 is that it has a really large foot print, in fact it is actually bigger (in size and foot print) than the legendary 2003 model, the SRS-Z510. Comparing the two speakers side-by-side, the Z510 (which costs about twice as much) actually sounds like a compact Hi-Fi.

The annoying background hiss / quantization noise is still very obvious here, which is something that has plagued every Sony active speaker ever since they introduced their infamous (cheap) digital amplifier into their portable speaker range.

The new auto power on/off is a welcomed feature to any portable speakers, since they normally stay on indefinitely after your music player has turned off.

So, if you're looking for an easy to use desktop speakers for your laptop / walkman to play pop / r&b / rock / heavy metal songs, this speaker is a steal considering how cheap they are (and they don't sound bad and can get quite loud). But if you are into classical music / jazz / blues or just want clean sound combined with warm and tight bass notes, the A212 may fall a little short of your expectations. Look for the big Z series instead like the Z510 or the Z750 or even the majestic SRS-Z1000.

Sony 2.1 Personal Speakers (Black) Review

Not sure why no one has not made a review on this yet but I just received mine and have it all hooked up. It's exactly what I needed. I'm using it for my TV only to watch movies and play Xbox. It has two rear RCA plugs for input only and the two speaker input plugs. Thats all thats on the back of the subwoofer but thats all that I needed. I have it hooked to my TV and from there I play my Xbox and movies through it. The quality of Sony is great and the sound is very strong. AND best of all it does come with a WIRELESS remote control. Why theres never a picture of that on this site or anywhere I have no idea. Plus the details on Amazon say that it is a wired controller and that is not correct. The remote controls volume, mute, bass, treble, input, power. On the front of the woofer, theres a secondary input for an MP3 player plus headphone input. You can also control the bass etc.. from the front of the woofer. I'd like to add that the woofer is as big as a standard stereo woofer. You can also control the volume if you disable the TV speakers ( if you have that option on the TV ) and just turn up the woofer and leave it at a high volume so then you just adjust the TV's volume instead that way you can use your TV remote only if you want. Or you can do it vise versa and use the woofers remote instead.

I've looked at all the other powered speakers on amazon and these Sony's are perfect and at a great price. Order it for the PC as it does come with an adaptor with RCA's on one end and 1/8 plug on the other or get it for the TV as theres nothing better at this price. I'd also like to add that the pictures do not do the system justice.. The subwoofer is seriously impressive and massive as in expensive looking and big.

Last note, this thing will blow the windows out! Serious bass and power. You have been warned! :)

Sony Srsd21X 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System Review

I bought these off a friend for $20 to use on my laptop computer.
At first I was a little disapointed by the lack of power (the satellite speakers are just 2 watts each, the subwoofer is 20 watts), but after listening to them for several months, I am pleased to say that despite being somewhat low-powered, they sound pretty good.

These are 2.1 type speakers so there's two satellite speakers and a subwoofer. The two satellite speakers have just a single driver that's 2.5 inches in diameter (about the norm for PC speakers), and a subwoofer totally encased in a box. It's interesting that the subwoofer is front-firing, but totally enclosed, which is unlike most subwoofers on PC speakers (or regular speaker systems). Even the lower-end and high-end models like the Klipsch ProMedia X2.1's and the Holy-Grail of 2.1 PC speakers, the Logitech Z-2300's have either rear-firing or downward-firing subwoofers, and I feel these give better bass response, intensity, and quality.

Why Sony chose this configuration is beyond me. It causes a bit of distortion in the lower ranges, and the bass isn't as crisp and not as pronounced or powerful as some other speakers. You can help this out by moving the speaker outlet away from you, but it's still somewhat muffled unless you crank the volume up. This could also be helped by the addition of a bass and treble adjustment, but nothing is adjustible on these speakers (except the volume).

The mid-ranges and highs are good and come out clean and chrisp, but there is room for improvement in the sound quality for speakers costing $50+. I listen to a lot of music on my computer, so that's mostly what I use these for. For music, these are just fine, even if there is room for improvement. I have watched some movies with them, and was disappointed in the sound quality. I compared these side-by-side with some $20 speakers made by Accent Acoustics, and as far as I could tell, there's not much difference between the two. The Accent speakers had less wattage (15), but the bass sounded more pronounced, powerful, and chrisp, probably because they had adjustable trebel and bass.

The price is an issue. It's not for me, because I got these for $20, but I'd have never paid full-price for them when there's better models out there for about the same price as these.

The good: Sony quality, good mid-range and upper range response and clarity, 3.5mm headphone jack, easy connectivity (the speakers can unplug from the subwoofer).

The bad: Weird front-firing fully enclosed subwoofer design, muffled and distorted bass; weak bass response for 22 watts, fragile speaker bases, no remote, and no adjustments for the bass or trebel.

Overall, if you are looking for a set of 2.1 type PC speakers, look elsewhere. You can find a comparable or better set for cheaper, or a really nice set (like Logitech's Z-4i's or X-240's) for about the same price as these.

These things sound really good and have excellent bass at low volumes.They aren't as loud as I was hoping but more than enough if I'm within 15 feet of my pc. And if you turn the volume dial all the way up there is a lot of bass distortion but that's expected.

They only cost $[...] on amazon now. They're replacing my 8 year old Sony PCVA-SP2 set that came with my Vaio which look almost identical, only these new ones sound better.Hopefully they last me another 8 years.
